Index is changing brick-and-mortar retail from the ground up.  More than just a mobile wallet, Index is building a payments system for both consumers and top-tier merchants. The market opportunity is staggeringly large and we’re looking for exceptional engineers to help us create products that will shape the future of commerce.

• Collaboration both within engineering, and with other parts of the company.  You should be able to explain ideas to others and debate merits of approaches in a positive way.  You should be able to listen, read and learn from others, who will also want to learn from you.

• Trust. Being responsible with our users’ data: individual consumers and large merchants alike.  We earn our users’ trust by being thoughtful and careful both in our designs and in our day-to-day operations.

• Writing beautiful code that is easy to read and easy to change. You should be able to refactor code so that it’s better. You should know how to write testable code and should value automated testing.

• Seeking deep understanding.  It isn’t enough for you to just get something working once.  You feel compelled to understand the lower layers of things, so that you can reason about how things fit together and you can create more informed designs.

• Finished a project you’d be proud to show us.

• Picked up a B.S., B.A. or M.S. in Computer Science or a related field.

• Have worked with large, complex object-oriented code bases.

• Were able to prioritize and deliver your work in a self-directed manner.

• Prototyped new features and improved existing features.

• Have written testable code.

• Became fluent in Java.

• Are experienced with asynchronous programming and multi-threading.

• Have worked with databases and web services.

• Know your way around UI Programming.
