About Us:

Located at 1 Yonge St. in downtown Toronto, Wirkn is a startup set on disrupting employment in the shift-based retail and hospitality industry through a mobile-first application and job marketplace.

Imagine using your smartphone GPS to spot job opportunities around you and applying right on your mobile device with a digital profile that includes an introductory video to help you differentiate and express yourself. No more walking door-to-door handing out paper resumes. Instead, you’d receive instant feedback with push notifications being sent to store managers the minute you apply – and that just the beginning.

Led by seasoned entrepreneur, Derek Szeto (previously founder of RedFlagDeals.com) and founded by Francois Jobin (previously the VP of HR and eCommerce at ALDO Group) Wirkn is quickly making waves in the on-demand employment market. In the 8 Months since Wirkn’s founding, our team has already teamed up with international brands as pilot partners, raised initial seed funding, and released an iOS and Android application.

As a designer at Wirkn, you’re expected to help create a beautiful product that considers the needs of both our employer partners who are looking to hire talent as well as our candidate users looking to find the their next exciting employment opportunity. In doing so, you need to be able to identify problems, perform research, prototype solutions, ship features, and even assist with marketing and presentation collateral — sometimes all in the same week.

At Wirkn, we believe in empowering our design with user feedback and data to help derive a product that meets the true needs of our end users. Communication and collaboration are the foundation of our team and that means leaving our ego at the door to be able to care about the right solution above everything else.

You Will:

• Have the opportunity to make a huge impact on a small, but growing product and team

• Be critical to the development of a profoundly unique product that will change the way our world consumes employment

• Contribute to our growing design system of patterns in an effort to bridge a coherent look and feel across the Wirkn experience (mobile, web, print, etc.)

• Be a representative of our users in discussions of new products and the overall product strategy

• Be an advocate for good user experience across our platform

• Ship high fidelity designs of new features and quickly prototype solutions to visual and interaction problems

• Assist with marketing collateral for presentations and distributable materials

You Have:

• Proficiency with Photoshop, Illustrator, prototyping tools, Keynote, HTML, CSS, Javascript and Git

• Passion about solving design problems while wearing multiple hats and owning all facets of design (strategy, IA, art direction, interaction design and research)

• And understanding of how design and technology must work together within an agile development environment

• The ability to collaborate well with others — “others” may include developers, researchers, copywriters, end users and other internal team members.

• Exceptional UI abilities shown in an extensive portfolio of live projects
