Position Summary:

At GVE Online Education Inc. we believe in providing high-quality language education that helps Chinese children from grades one to nine accomplish their English learning goals. To achieve this, GVEOE seeks a Senior Applications Architect to join the leadership team and help continue to innovate and deliver excellence in language education.  

The Senior Applications Architect will support an agile team with the ability to create and demonstrate proof of concepts, reference architectures and/or coding practices. He/she will be responsible for leading the technical design, coding, test validation activities and documentation for GVE OE’s web portal application and e-learning system. The Senior Applications Architect will collaborate with other executive and management on a daily basis, continuing to build innovative online education products and ensure smooth-functioning business operations.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as a functional liaison for applications support to respond, prioritize and resolve customer support and maintenance requests
• Exhibit strong hands-on experience with vertical integration (web, service, data and security) and application life-cycle management
• Present thorough architecture reviews on a frequent basis and must be familiar with design patterns and object-oriented analysis and design
• Deliver effective and efficient technical solutions by meeting key project milestones and ensure that the project deliverables are on time, within budget, and adhere to the corporate quality and security standards
• Design technical solutions for each Business Requirement and ensure alignment with Business Analyst & Developer
• Exhibit strong hands-on experience with vertical integration (web, service, data and security) and application life-cycle management
• Present thorough architecture reviews on a frequent basis and must be familiar with design patterns and object-oriented analysis and design
• Work with Developers to ensure that the detailed technical design is fully understood and the development initiatives are in line with the intended design and standards
• Comply with the system development life cycle (SDLC), project management methodology (PMLC), business technology architecture, and risk and product capacity – including development of project documentation of system requirements, estimates of scope and cost, etc.
• Coordinate development and delivery activities and ensure deliverables are of the highest quality while adhering to defined release, change, project and architectural standards and methodologies
• Conduct code reviews to ensure quality, standards compliance, reusability and ease of maintenance
• Communicate project status and provide timely escalation of issues to ensure project objectives are met
• Shares knowledge and mentors junior team members in the principles, theories, practices and techniques of Software Design & Architecture

Skills and Experience:

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems
• 3+ years of experience in application architecture or solution architecture with LMS or e-learning platform
• 5+ years of experience in application design and development on web-based application, Java, SOA, and middleware
• Experience in agile methodologies such as scrum
• In-depth knowledge of Java, J2EE platform, Web logic & Websphere Application Server
• Experience with Web Services (RESTful and SOAP)
• Well-versed in enterprise technologies with the ability to switch between “macro” and “micro” visions effectively and efficiently
• Experience as a technical leader on a project team
• Familiar with popular open-source tools such as Eclipse, NetBeans, Junit, Log4J, Struts, Spring
• Familiar with Relational Databases such as Oracle or SQL Server
• Familiar with messaging and SOA technologies
• Strong knowledge on Mobile App development technology (iOS & Android)
• Strong knowledge with other architecture domains (Data, Infrastructure, Business)
• Strong organizational, project, process and time management skills
• Strong ethics and values of quality, completeness and accuracy of work
• Highly articulate communicator with exceptional interpersonal skills and an affinity for culturally diverse environments

Desired:

Mandarin speaking would be an asset

Hands-on experience with online scheduling tool would be preferred
