We are looking for a Director of Engineering that can build the tools and workflows that allow our customers to be more efficient and productive in a competitive marketplace.

Work Market is the leading platform for freelance labor. Our freelance management platform is providing the biggest brands in the world and freelancing businesses, with a solution that allows both sides to manage an end-to-end contract engagement at scale. We are right in the middle of a rapidly growing freelance economy that will make up 50% of the workforce by 2020.

We provide access to on-demand subject matter experts that allow companies to be productive and efficient. Our engineers build the tools and workflows that allow our customer to be more efficient and productive in a competitive marketplace. We are customer driven, our engineers work closely with the Product team to help define and articulate a vision for the Work Market platform. We focus on providing simple, elegant solutions to complex problems.

As Director of Engineering, you’ll be responsible for building out the Engineering team, managing the development process, and shaping our technical infrastructure. Your impressive skills as a technologist will allow you to own the Engineering Roadmap, architect a scalable application, as well as lead the charge on automation and continuous integration. You’ll get the opportunity to get your hands dirty while also managing and mentoring individuals on the Engineering team. You are well respected for your technical skills, but take even more pride in the accomplishments and growth of the team.

An ideal candidate for this role is someone who thrives in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment and is able to balance solutions that are elegant and scalable, yet simple and pragmatic. You embrace the value of shipping rather than over-engineering.

Responsibilities

• Build, lead and inspire multiple agile teams of talented software engineers.
• Work closely with senior management to define goals and plan.
• Work with the Engineering and Product teams to execute projects from conception to production.
• Drive the technology future roadmap.
• Manage, coach and grow engineers.
• Recruit and retain top engineering talents.
• Constantly improve team productivity by refining Agile processes.

Requirements

• Experience building enterprise, event-driven systems at scale.
• Passion for shipping daily and iterating.
• Experience hands-on managing agile teams and processes.
• Proficient in Java programming.
• Passion for using technology to elegantly solve business problems.
