Overview

We’re currently looking for someone to take ownership of the Southern foundation and institutional partnerships. The Development Manager will be responsible for some of the most important funding relationships of the organization and will have the opportunity to grow the portfolio over time. This is a growth opportunity that will provide exposure to a multi-functional development team – including events, major gifts, and marketing.

You:

  • Are intuitive and possess a high processing speed
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and are goal-oriented
  • Pay meticulous attention to detail and read instructions twice
  • Are a natural writer and storyteller with experience crafting proposals or pitches
  • Have a strong presence in meetings and an ability to connect authentically with VFA’s partners
  • Give everything 10% more than it requires
  • Have 2-5+ years of professional experience; grantwriting experience strongly preferred
  • Have a B.A./B.S. or an advanced degree
  • Knowledge of Salesforce a plus

What you’ll do:

  • Write compelling proposals to secure six and seven figure grants, including multi-year commitments from leading philanthropic investors
  • Speak with passion and purpose, projecting confidence and doing a great job of representing VFA
  • Build and fortify a network of supporters in our southern cities
  • Prepare meticulous reports that convey the impact of the donor’s investment in VFA
  • Maintain a grants calendar and stay on top of multiple deadlines
  • Work with internal teams at VFA to showcase their accomplishments and streamline systems for metrics reporting
  • Package new project ideas in a way that serves the VFA mission and meets the expectations of potential donors
  • Gain exposure to all aspects of organizational development, working alongside experienced fundraising professionals

The good stuff:

  • High performers at VFA are given substantial opportunity to grow and develop
  • You’ll earn a competitive salary, commensurate with experience, plus health, dental, and vision benefits
  • VFA is a dynamic startup environment with varied responsibilities and a different challenge each day (we mean it – always plenty of interesting problems to work on!)
  • You’ll work alongside a team of crazy motivated, high-caliber people
  • You’ll suddenly have less trouble getting out of bed and going to work in the morning
